Chris Ferger, AIA LEED AP, 2010 President of AIA Chesapeake Bay
In 2006 I joined the AIA Chesapeake Bay chapter board as a director, knowing very little of how a professional organization was run. My only interaction with the chapter was at its monthly events, which were mainly tours of buildings and networking receptions. As Treasurer, I witnessed a transition in our Chapter, now led by our new Executive Director. Thanks to her expertise in planning events, the chapter became more organized and the monthly events became more efficient on a timely basis as well as on a financial one.
As we start the year 2010 there are many uncertainties in the field of architecture due to this great economic down turn. Some 25% of architects are unemployed and many firms struggle to stay afloat. It is in times like this that our members should become more involved in the chapter to experience what a professional organization is all about. Our chapter offers continuing education credits at every event and networking opportunities with fellow architects, firms, contractors and product representatives. I have the utmost confidence in our Board and the Chapter itself that we can come together as a whole, make our way through these difficult economic times, and be stronger for the future.
So come out and be a part of our chapter as we strive to play a vital role in the recovery of our profession and society as a whole.
Sincerely,
Chris Ferger, AIA LEED AP
